Favorite Gardens, Parks, & Arboretums

Aldridge Gardens, Hoover AL
I loved being a volunteer here.  This is a Hydrangea center botanical garden. Huge collection of hydrangeas.  A must see for any Hydrangea enthusiast.  Best time of year to visit is during the Hydrangea Spring Plant Sale in May.  Generally, the peak season of bloom is between mid May and mid June. But french mophead Hydrangeas ‘hold’ their blooms all summer and other species continue the bloom period into late summer, such as the serratas, paniculatas, and quercifolias.

Cossey Botanical Park, Fredericksburg VA
A great little gem of a botanical garden at Littlepage St. and Grove Ave. in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Many different species of trees and shrubs.

Durand Park, Rochester NY
I volunteered here for a brief period of time as a Community Forester.  What a wonderful experience. This arboretum is truly a hidden gem.  Don’t miss the guided Master Gardener tours in Spring and Fall.  Contact the Monroe County Cooperative Extension for Durand MG Tour information.
